Glasstual

Privacy

Glasstual is an IRC client. It has no Glasstual account, advertising, or developer-operated analytics service. It connects to the networks and peers you choose and keeps its settings and chat history on your Mac.

Data on your Mac

Glasstual stores server settings, preferences, and local conversation history on your Mac. It can also save transcript log files if you turn on logging. Saved server, nickname, proxy, and channel passwords are stored in the macOS Keychain. Commands you configure to run when connecting may contain sensitive text and can remain in local settings or backups. Files you receive are saved in Downloads or a folder you select.

You can clear a conversation's scrollback in the app. Turning off transcript logging stops new log files from being written; it does not delete files already saved. Removing the app may leave its local data and Keychain items on your Mac. Contact support if you need help removing them.

IRC connections

When you connect to an IRC network, Glasstual sends the connection details, nickname, authentication information, and messages needed to use that network. The network and other participants may see or retain what you send according to their own practices. Glasstual does not operate those networks.

Direct chat and file transfers can connect to another participant's computer. That participant may see your network address. If a DCC transfer needs to discover your public address and your router does not provide it, Glasstual contacts api.ipify.org by default. A setting can instead use wtfismyip.com, canhazip.com, or ifconfig.me, or avoid these lookups by using a router-only or manual address.

Links and images

If inline images are enabled, Glasstual may fetch images linked in messages over HTTP or HTTPS. The image host receives the request and may see your IP address. Opening a link sends you to your browser, whose privacy settings and the destination site's policy then apply.
